1. Storage cells in a Vicia faba cotyledon viewed by light microscopy after staining with the periodic acid -Schiff reaction to colour carbohydrates red (starch grains and faintly-stained cell walls) and bromo-phenol blue to stain protein bodies blue. The central nucleus also shows up, as does the faintly-stained cytoplasm.
