1. This TEM view of part of root tip cells in Eucalyptus sieberii was prepared by rapid freezing under high pressure, followed with freeze substitution. This procedure is held to give the most faithful representation of the live state, and the results differ in detail from the results of chemical fixation (as used in the preceding 5 screens). Labels indicate examples of mitochondria (M), Golgi apparatus (G), endoplasmic reticulum cisternae (ER), cell wall (CW, plasma membrane (PM), vacuoles (Vac) and their limiting membrane the tonoplast (T).
