1. Petals of the "scarlet pimpernel", Anagallis arvensis, have marginal glands consisting of a basal cell, a stalk cell, and an elongated cap cell with heavily pigmented vacuole(s). The next screen (movie) shows the dynamic nature of the different types of vacuoles which co-exist in the stalk and cap cells. (Note: "scarlet" pimpernel has many colour forms, from blue to red - this example has orange flower petals)
