3 spp.; Australia: mainly in the Eremaean or dry zones of W Australia, the N Territory, north-western S Australia, Queensland and N New South Wales, but distribution disjunct

Derived from Mueller (Baron F.J.H. Mueller (1825-1896), first Government Botanist for Victoria (1853-1896) and anthos (Gk.: a flower); the genus is based on Ptychosema trifoliolatum F. Muell.)

Shrubs; subtropical, mediterranean and temperate shrubland; favours sandy soils, often associated with Triodia spp. (Gramineae)
