Southern Australia.
Open woodlands and open forests, mallee woodlands, heaths, and swamps; from coastal areas to montane regions (but not alpine) and semi-arid regions.

A full revision of this genus is required; A. ericoides (Vent.) Don, the most widespread species, is also the most variable with a number of probable taxa included in this name.
