1. This is an example of
a "wurtzite" type of prolamellar body. Overall, the lattice is an
hexagonal prism, and the section has sliced across it at a slight angle so that
three successive planes of hexagonal rings are seen, together with two intervening
layers of connecting tubules. The two small boxes show tetrahedral units as
in the models alongside. The large box is shown at higher magnification at top
right (see label 3).
2. This model shows how tetrahedral units in successive planes are connected
with the tubules in register.
