Laboratory facilities
Our lab is well equipped for phytochemical & nutritional analysis of plant material & analysis of animal tissues. My philosophy is that if we can't do it "in-house" we collaborate & publish jointly with someone who can!

• Waters HPLC system (analytical & semiprep) with UV & Fluorescence detectors
• Waters HPLC system with PDA, CI & refractance detectors & autosamplers (shared)
• NIR Systems 6500 Near Infrared Reflectance Spectrometer
• Semi-automated Kjeldahl analysis,
• ANKOM Fibre analyser
• Gallenkamp Adiabatic Bomb calorimeter
• UV-Vis spectrophotometers
• Ovens
• Evaporators
• Plus the usual array of small equipment ­ balances, homogenisers, water baths, diluters, extraction apparatus etc.
• Field equipment including radio & audio telemetry, field freezers etc.

Animal facilities

• We have a small (3 room) temperature-controlled animal house for studies of captive marsupials together with large outside holding pens. Facilities include a range of metabolism cages, a cool room for storage of Eucalyptus leaf & a large food preparation area.
• A new University animal house is likely to be constructed in the next three years.

Computer & database facilities

• ANU has one of the fastest network systems in Australia & all campus computers are connected to it. My students have their own computers with email, WWW & access to Current Contents, Science Citation Index & Chemical Abstracts Online (http://anulib.anu.edu.au/)
